Our thematic vision for the table was a low-scifi farm, later expanded into a paramilitary mining zone. We wanted the scenery to fit the 40K atmosphere but not go overboard with the gothic details - instead we aimed for the vibe of the classic Rogue Trader reference of Pedro Kantor hiding from greenskins on a remote farmstead. The 40K lore setting of today seems to lack all the mundane and everyday features, the things that actually make the supernatural heroes and their deeds epic.
As the build stages progressed, I had an idea of incorporating the table into the story of one particular War Head force; Ollie's brilliant "Sons of Snope" Primaris Marines have an interesting background and the terrain features we were about to craft resembled their basing style quite a bit. The studio table would therefore become their home planet Snope's World and its adamantium mining site of Karney's Valley, which gave us a lot of additional inspiration and detail ideas.
